Your First Visit

Hand ShakeWelcome to Cornerstone Chiropractic! On your first visit, you will find our procedures to be both efficient and thorough. We are excited to share chiropractic with you, and we kindly ask that you reserve about one hour for your first visit to our office. At the beginning of your initial visit, you will be asked to fill out some paperwork that will enable Dr. Busse to focus on the reason for your appointment. Most forms are available here on our website, and many patients find it beneficial and efficient to fill them out before their appointment.

If you have insurance, you may be asked to present your health insurance card so that we can verify your benefits and share that information with you. You will be given a tour of our office and become acquainted with the staff, the office, and all that we have to offer. Next, we are pleased to share a 5-minute patient-orientation video with our new patients. This video helps to begin the partnership between Dr. Busse and his patients, and it shares about our chiropractic philosophy as well.

After the video, Dr. Busse will begin your appointment with a consultation. During this time, he will take a detailed health history and learn more about your condition. Understanding your chief complaint and the reason you are seeking chiropractic care is very important to Dr. Busse, and he will take the time to listen to your concerns and answer any questions that you may already have. Following the consultation, Dr. Busse will perform a detailed chiropractic exam, which includes checking posture, ranges of motion, orthopedic and neurological tests, and muscle function tests. After the exam, Dr. Busse will determine if X-rays are necessary. If so, we have digital X-ray on-site, and Dr. Busse will take the needed X-rays to help him best diagnosis your condition.

Following the consultation, exam, and X-rays, you will then be scheduled for a follow-up visit, which typically occurs the next day, or at your earliest convenience. Generally, Dr. Busse does not adjust patients on the first visit so that he has time to accurately study your condition and determine the best course of care. Prior to the second appointment, Dr. Busse spends time thoroughly evaluating all of the information collected during your first visit. He will prepare a written report of findings so that it is easy to understand his treatment plan and how he believes chiropractic will be of benefit to you.

Your Second Visit – Report of Findings

When you return for your follow-up visit, Dr. Busse will give you his written report of findings. This report details the results of your exam and X-ray findings. Dr. Busse will take time to explain his findings, answer any questions you may have, and offer you his recommendation for your care. During this appointment, Dr. Busse will explain what he found, how chiropractic can help, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. We are here to work with you in order to help you reach your health goals.

A patient’s first chiropractic treatment most commonly occurs immediately following the report of findings. This is an exciting time when patients place chiropractic as the foundation stone to better health! Since Dr. Busse spends ample time during this appointment explaining the course of your care and giving your first chiropractic adjustment, please allow about 30-45 minutes for your second appointment. All future appointments are much shorter than these initial two visits.

Regular Visits for Optimal Health

On subsequent visits, your appointments will take about 15 minutes. We know that being a chiropractic patient takes commitment, and we want to value your time. Once Dr. Busse knows what care is best for you, he can quickly assess and treat you in a time-efficient manner. During these visits, Dr. Busse may adjust your spine and/or extremities (elbows, wrists, ankles, shoulders, etc.…) and work on supporting soft tissues such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles.

You may also receive some form of electrotherapy if Dr. Busse determines it would be of benefit to you. Oftentimes, Dr. Busse demonstrates and teaches his patients how to do simple therapy exercises, and you may be asked to continue these exercises at home.

During the course of your care, Dr. Busse will perform periodic progress exams to assess your condition and adjust your treatment plan as necessary. These progress exams provide a positive experience for both Dr. Busse and the patient because the results can be measured against a patient’s initial exam, and seeing progress is encouraging and exciting for everyone!

Upon completion of a chiropractic treatment plan, Dr. Busse recommends wellness visits for his chiropractic patients. Once again, we are here to help you meet your health goals. Many of our patients have benefitted from regular chiropractic maintenance care for years. We look forward to providing the best quality chiropractic care for you, too!

A Professional Approach to Care

At Cornerstone Chiropractic, we like to take the time to do things right from the 1st appointment. That is why we do not, in general, accept walk-in patients, and we are not a “walk-in” clinic. Our philosophy of chiropractic is different—we believe that obtaining true health is a process. Dr. Busse spends about an hour with a patient during the initial consultation and exam (the first visit). Typically, chiropractic treatment does not begin until after Dr. Busse has thoroughly reviewed a patient’s health history, exam, and X-ray findings and taken time to explain those findings to the patient. At Cornerstone Chiropractic, we are glad to partner with you—to come alongside you in order to help you achieve your health goals.

Many patients have commented on Dr. Busse’s thoroughness and attention to detail. Patients notice that Dr. Busse desires to use the knowledge that he’s acquired over the years to be able to help them as much as possible. It is common to hear patients in our office comment on how well Dr. Busse explained a certain condition or procedure. Our patients appreciate the simple ways that Dr. Busse can take the complex issues of the human body and complicated medical or scientific vocabulary and explain it in a way they can easily understand.
